Ceiling Painting

Bright, clean ceilings professionally painted for a perfect finish

About This Service

Ceilings are often overlooked but a dull, yellowing or poorly painted ceiling can significantly detract from any room. Our ceiling painting service covers every type of ceiling from smooth plasterboard to textured Artex, stipple and woodchip. We use the correct products and techniques for each surface type to deliver a bright, clean result.

What Ceiling Painting Involves

  • Preparation of ceiling surfaces — filling any cracks or imperfections
  • Treatment of any water stains with stain-blocking primer
  • Application of appropriate ceiling primer
  • Two coats of high-quality brilliant white ceiling paint
  • Careful cutting in around coving, light fittings and walls
  • Cove and coving painting as part of the ceiling work

Why Use a Professional?

Ceiling painting requires the right roller and the right paint to avoid marks, ridges and poor coverage. Stain-blocking on water-damaged areas is essential — standard emulsion will not cover water stains. Our team has the techniques to achieve a truly flat, bright finish on any ceiling type.

Our Process

1

Preparation

We prepare the ceiling by filling cracks, treating stains and applying a stain-blocking primer where needed.

2

Priming

We apply an appropriate primer coat to ensure even absorption and good adhesion of the finish coat.

3

Painting

We apply two coats of high-quality ceiling paint using professional rollers and techniques to achieve a flat, even finish.

4

Cutting In

We carefully cut in around all edges, coving, light fittings and other ceiling details.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you get a smooth finish on an Artex ceiling?

To smooth an Artex ceiling requires either skimming over it with plaster or covering with a ceiling lining paper. We can paint the existing texture, which looks better with a fresh coat than with heavy, encrusted layers of old paint.

Can you cover water stains on a ceiling?

Yes — but standard emulsion will not permanently cover water stains as the tannins bleed through. We use a specialist stain-blocking primer first.

Should ceilings always be white?

Not necessarily. Coloured ceilings are increasingly popular, especially in rooms with high ceilings. We are happy to discuss options and can advise on how colour on the ceiling affects the feel of the room.

Can you paint a ceiling without getting paint on the walls?

Yes — we use masking tape and careful brush technique to produce a clean, straight line between ceiling and walls.

Our lounge ceiling had some old water stains that always showed through every time we tried to paint it. Decorama fixed it properly and it looks brand new.
